Santa Fe Travel Guide: Where to Eat, Stay and What To Do in Santa Fe

Eating Breakfast at Modern General Feed And Seed

Last year, my best friend and I happened to be pregnant at the same time. It was so fun getting to share that season together! We knew we had to take advantage and convince our husbands to let us do a double Santa Fe babymoon.

We debated many different babymoon ideas and we all agreed on Santa Fe! Our last baby moon was in Paris, which admittedly is tough to beat, BUT we ended up having the greatest time. Santa Fe is a great babymoon location because there’s honestly not a ton to do. No pressure to see tons of sites or be on the go, but instead, tons of great food and cultural options to make for a relaxing babymoon.

If you’re looking for a babymoon destination that is relaxing, interesting, has enough to do to keep you occupied but not so much that you feel wiped from sight-seeing, a Santa Fe vacation is the perfect babymoon for you!

Our number one priority was to leave our Santa Fe babymoon feeling relaxed! We started off our trip with a visit to Ten Thousand Waves Spa. It ended up being the best decision we made the whole trip.

Everything about this place is a DREAM. They even have hot tubs they can set to a safe temperature for pregnant women (!!!!!), just make sure to call ahead as soon as possible because we waited too long and they were all reserved.

This spa is everything you have ever dreamed of in a spa and more. From the second we walked in, I felt relaxed and comfortable. Sitting outside in the cool mountain air while soaking my feet in the warm foot spa was exactly what my swollen feet needed.

Ten Thousand Waves is inspired by the great Japanese mountain hot spring resorts. It’s a short 10 minute drive from downtown Santa Fe feels perfectly secluded, being only minutes from the National Forest. There is a huge range of spa treatments and massages. You have to come to here for your Santa Fe babymoon!

BEST PLACES TO EAT IN SANTA FE:

Breakfast Food from Modern General Feed And Seed

Breakfast Food from Modern General Feed And Seed

Santa Fe is a great place to enjoy incredible and unique food. Here you can find traditional New Mexican flavors in fine dining as well as cool hipster restaurants side by side. New Mexico is known as the “Land of Enchantment” and the food in Santa Fe lives up to the hype. You’ll be shocked at the number of ways that red and green chile can be served!

For expectant moms, if you find yourself with Mexican cuisine pregnancy cravings, the restaurants in Santa Fe will not disappoint! Lots of great restaurants to check out on your Santa Fe baby moon!

I listed a wide range the best food in Santa Fe, below! Some are authentic New Mexican food and some are hip new places below:

Tia Sophias - Tia Sophias is one of the only remaining original New Mexican restaurants, established in 1948. If you're looking to try authentic New Mexican food at a really reasonable price, you can't miss Tia Sophias!

Marias New Mexican Kitchen - This is another great stop for authentic New Mexican food, but with a bit more flare and ambiance! The margarita list is long and the seating area is great!

Rooftop Pizzeria - If you find yourself craving pizza, I can't recommend Rooftop Pizzeria enough! It'a a casual pizza shop that offers beer, wine, sangria and interesting pizza toppings like avocados!

The Pantry Restaurant - We didn't end up getting the chance to stop here, but it's number one on my list to try the next time we're in Santa Fe because of its incredibly high reviews! The pantry restaurant is another simple, laid back stop for authentic New Mexican cuisine that folks rave about!

Café Pasquals - You can't come to Santa Fe without a stop at Cafe Pasquals! It boasts a cozy southwest vibe and has great options for breakfast, lunch or dinner! After you eat, stop by the art gallery door to experience some beautiful New Mexican art!

Plaza Café - Plaza Cafe is the perfect stop for lunch or dinner while you're exploring the downtown Santa Fe Plaza! Right on the square, stop here for plenty of New Mexican food offerings like avocado tacos and blue corn enchiladas. If you make it in for breakfast, try the Blue Corn pancakes!

Modern General- This stop is different than every other on the list, but was one of our favorite places to eat in all of Santa Fe. This newer, very hip restaurant has the best biscuits I've ever eaten. Stop by for great coffee, incredible biscuits and a super cool vibe.

BEST THINGS TO DO IN SANTA FE

Santa Fe is full of fun things to do for everyone and especially expectant parents! There are tons of museum's like the Mexico History museum, the Museum of International Folk, the Museum of Indian Arts and of course, the Georgia O'keefe Museum. The Palace of the Governors is quite impressive and if you love golf, the Links de Santa Fe is one of the most highly rated golf courses.

Here are some of our favorite things to do in Santa Fe:

Kakawa Chocolate - This is a fun and unique stop! If you love chocolate, especially hot chocolate, make sure to make it to the Kakawa Chocolate House for some of their famous chocolate!

Second Street Brewery - okay, so this is admittedly not the best stop for pregnant moms, but could be a great place for the guys to head while the ladies are soaking their feet in the spa! The location at the Santa Fe Railroad district is super cool and worth a stop!

Meow Wolf - We all really wanted to experience all that is Meow Wolf, but weren't able to fit it in because of the wait. If you haven't heard about Meow Wolf, check it and post all of your crazy photos on Instagram!

Santa Fe Farmers Market - I love a good farmers market and this one did not disappoint! It was full of unique New Mexican vendors. We spent a while here, trying different foods and experiencing different culture.

Ten Thousand Waves Spa- I think I've raved about this resort spa enough, but I could write an entire piece just on how incredible it is!

35 North Coffee - We love trying out local coffee shops while traveling and enjoyed our stop at 35 North Coffee!

Georgia O’Keefe Museum - This is an iconic museum that any art lover shouldn't miss! The Georgia O'keefe website describes the experience this way, "The Museum’s collection spans O’Keeffe’s entire artistic career, lasting six decades. We have everything from her childhood pencil portraits to watercolor paintings she made in her eighties."
