Top Destinations for Summer Family Travel in Texas

1. Rockport, Texas

Rockport is a charming coastal town perfect for a family beach vacation. Known for its family-friendly beach, Rockport Beach Park, the town offers safe swimming areas, picnic spots, and playgrounds, making it top of our list of the best summer vacation destinations in Texas. Here are three must-see sights:

  • Rockport Beach Park: A family-friendly beach with clean sand, clear waters, playgrounds, and picnic areas.

  • Texas Maritime Museum: Discover the maritime history of Texas through interactive exhibits and educational programs.

  • Aransas National Wildlife Refuge: Explore diverse wildlife and birdwatching opportunities, perfect for nature-loving families.

My kids love heading to Rockport every summer! I highly recommend Rockport as an ideal destination for families with young kids because the beach is so much more tame than many others in the area. There are rarely waves at all and you have to walk out at least 50 yards before the water is more than 4 foot deep. Another bonus is that there’s much less of a “party culture” in Rocport so you’re not having to fight nearly as many tourists.

Lastly- Rockport is just a 30 minute drive from Corpus Christi, meaning that if you want to add on a trip to the Texas State Aquarium, Hooks Baseball Game or a Corpus beach to your trip you can!

If you’re looking for a family friendly Texas summer beach trip destination, put Rockport at the top of your list!

There are so many fun resorts around Port A that you can really get the best of both worlds, with the beach and a resort all in one! Port A is full of cute and fun shops and tons of great places to eat Seafood or grab some ice cream! I especially recommend Port A for families with kids that are a bit older, as you do have to be careful on Port A beaches of the undertow. Overall, Port A makes for a great Texas summer trip!
