Christmas in Breckenridge: How To Plan for a Family Trip to Breckenridge For Christmas
For years, my family had talked about going to Colorado for Christmas. Every other year we do Christmas with my grandparents, aunt and uncle and cousins. This year everyone finally agreed was the year to do it, so we found an airbnb and had one of the best Christmas’s ever!
The first step in planning a trip to Breckenridge for Christmas is finding a great place to stay. Because Christmas is such a busy time in Breckenridge, places go fast so I recommend booking as soon as you possible can.
We were pretty open to areas of Colorado to stay in, but we knew we wanted to have easy access to ski. We also knew we wanted to stay somewhere that was likely to have snow. We decided to look near Breckenridge and found the perfect cabin in a little town called Fairplay.
We booked too late to get an affordable place in Breckenridge, but staying in FairPlay was totally doable and allowed us to book a bigger cabin for less money.
We spent most our trip playing in the snow outside of the cabin, drinking tons of hot chocolate, playing board games and just hanging out. I highly recommend making sure to find a place to stay that offers an area to play in the snow!
We did spend a couple different days roaming through downtown Breckenridge which was really fun! It’s such a perfect little downtown area that felt so Christmasy and fun. We grabbed lunch at The Blue Stag Saloon and then dinner at Burke & Riley’s pub and couldn’t leave without a crepe Crepes a la Cart! We also grabbed some coffee at Cabin Coffee Co, which was needed after walking in the cold for a while!
Christmas Eve ended up being so magical, when all of our White Christmas dreams came true and it started snowing. We had been watching the forcast all week and it wasn’t looking like fresh christmas morning snow was likely, but around 10 pm on Christmas eve is started coming down. We were so so excited and we went and got Eliot out of bed. She was so confused and thought we had lost our minds, but it was one of my very favorite memories.
The day after Christmas we were looking for something fun but easy to do out of the house, so we decided to go sledding! We ran to a local store and bought some sleds and found the perfect hill. We had so much fun and laughed so much.
This was a huge highlight for everyone and I definitely recommend setting aside a day for finding an epic hill and sledding until you can't anymore!
The last couple days were spent skiing in Breckenridge and we had a blast! There were so many good runs for the wide range of experience we had in our group! We rented all of our gear at Blue River Sports and had a great experience!
It was really a magical Christmas and one that we’ll never forget! Breckenridge is the perfect place for a family Christmas trip and had plenty to do to keep everyone in our group busy! Fairplay is a great are to look for a more affordable place to stay while still being a quick 20 minute drive from Breckenridge. Already trying to convince my family to do this again!
